We
were contacted by Adam Crane of the Powell Hall to confirm or lay to
rest the infamous "George the Ghost" stories. This is a very lavish
location with allot of history. Before it was Powell Hall it was The St
Louis Theater. Throughout the years patrons staff members and others
have witnessed the man in white top hat and tails in various locations
in the building. Being an extremely large structure with the seating in
the hall alone at 2689, the rest of the labyrinth would be a task to
find our way and cover in one evening. We were accompanied by Eddie
Silva who was very helpful in showing us where some of the hidden
locations were. We also had Bruce Mourning who is the Stage Manager
helping us out as well. This is a union run facility so we were kind of
on a time schedule for set up and break down but set up was rather
quick. We split into two groups. One group took the office areas and the
other, the rest. Adam Nelson and Shane went to the stage. The acoustics
right away were noticed. They did start hearing noises right away. They
moved to the seating area and spread out. There were several voices
heard but it was so hard to pinpoint from where. Steve, Rob and Melanie
were experiencing there own activity. They were hearing everything from
papers shuffling, doors opening and shutting to doors opening. The
spotlight booth turned out to be a hot spot with a great deal of
successful K-II sessions as well as a flashlight session that was
filmed. We also had a few EVP's that were captured in the booth and a
couple of strange personal experiences. Shane had heard a woman's voice
then a little kid saying "mommy mommy mommy". Adam had a similar
experience in the Whitaker Room that evening. He went down by himself to
see if he could get any kind of activity and heard, only what he could
describe as " A bunch of babies crying at the same time ". Earlier in
the evening while in the Whitaker Room, a group was having an EVP
session and right after a question, the phone rang one time. This was at
2:00 am. Everyone told us this should not have happened. Powell
Symphony Hall is a beautiful building and a great place to visit.
